The list is in order first by Preferred Status Clients (Repeat Customers & All Military) and then by Prospective Clients and their FCD (First Contact Date). There is NO Obligation to be on the list but about the only way to get one of our puppies is by being on the list. We have had Prospective Clients on the waiting list for a specific gender & color puppy for over a year before they finally get that special puppy that will become a part of their family.

Please Scroll Down and view our site. We have lots of photo's, stories and information about Our Aussies and the Australian Shepherd Breed. You can right click on each picture to open it in either New Window or New Tab in FULL Size and Detail.

**NOTE** for all those not familiar with our BDH Aussies Puppy Number/Letter Identification System. The first number corresponds to the order in which they were born and the number of puppies in that litter. The next two letters represent what Color they are; BM=Blue Merle, RM=Red Merle, BT=Black Tri and RT=Red Tri.. The last letter identifies the Sex of the Puppy M=Male and F=Female. The Number/Letter System and specific markings helps me keep track of exactly which puppy it is we are referring to when a prospective client is inquiring via phone or email.

Australian Shepherd Club of America - ASCA

The Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA) was established as the parent club for the breed in 1957 and incorporated as a non-profit corporation.

An Aussie is an AUSSIE not No Pansy Foo Foo Dog!

If you are interested in the Australian Shepherd you should be aware there are no size varieties of Australian Shepherds such as "Mini/Miniature" or "Toy" Australian Shepherds. Advertisers of Miniature and Toy Varieties of Australian Shepherds are simply employing marketing terminologies to facilitate the sale of animals to the unsuspecting public that are, in reality, just dramatically smaller than the norm.

Responsible and Reputable Australian Shepherd Breeders who care about protecting this unique, American breed of stock dog do not promote the sale of Miniature or Toy Varieties of Australian Shepherds. This is a marketing ploy to sell pups for increased prices. In recent years there have been several organizations and registries created to support those claims but a TRUE AMERICAN BLOODED Australian Shepherd they are NOT.

BDH's Bonnie Blue - Blue Merle Female

Current Breeding Dame

Bonnie is our current Breeding Female. She has had Six Litters now with a Grand Total of 54 Puppies. She and Bossier produce Blue & Red Merle's as well as Black & Red Tri's with the Merle's having Blue or Multicolored Eyes. She is also a Great Great Niece of Rhett's which is Bossier's Father.
Bonnie at Age 6 Months Shortly after this photo was taken Bonnie was seriously injured by a Bull or Mother Cow. She had several long lacerations to her back leg and a fractured femur. She required surgery removing the head of her femur at the joint and then grinding it down to fit into socket of the pelvis. It is remarkable she recovered from this injury and runs today like it never happened. We feel very lucky to have this marvelous spunky female.

She loves to ride on Top of the Truck Cab.

This was the Most Perfectly Matched Puppy to Owner Litter we have ever had. We feel each puppy's personality and character fit right in with the family they each went to. It is a wonderful feeling for us to be able to place or puppies in with families and have the confidence in knowing that they are going to be cared for and loved like they were one of their own children. AWESOME!

4RTM-McKinley (formerly known as Hereford)
These two are Buddies, McKinley & Laney. Dana says 'Kinley' as Laney calls him, is as big as a House and could take down a Barn but is ever so gentle around Laney. She also says it's little like living in the movie "Marley & Me" sometimes but he is such a sweetheart.
Oh... and I don't care what anybody says, but that dog is SMILING!

McKinley December 2009 is now 7 Months Old and is weighing in according to Dana at 50lbs!

My HUMAN PUPPIES

These are my two Human Puppies. Wade is age 18 and Jeffrey is age 14 and both attend Greenville High School. The Boyz play a Big Part of the Raising of our Aussies. They help with the Whelping, Doctoring, Feeding and even the Selling. Without them I'd be lost.

Wade and Jeffrey

This Picture was taken April 28th 1998. That is Rhett sitting next to Wade age 7 and Jeffrey age 4 sitting with a Liver Red Merle Female, Scarlet. We had bought her from the Ra-Ro Ranch in Golden, Tx where we had gotten Rhett from. This puppy was to be the beginning of the Line but she was killed only a month later by a car on the road in front of our house. She is buried next to Rhett in the North Pasture under a Big Oak. It took us a year before we purchased another female but we finally did and we puchased Cinnamon.
Wade get's in a little nap while Yogi helps keep him covered up warm and cozy.

Jeffrey gives Momma Bonnie some special loving and attention... having all those Puppy Luppy's deserves some special one on one time huh BonBon?

Happy Families and Satisfied Owners of Mutiliple BDH Aussie Puppies

Scott and Jennifer Patterson of Keller Texas with their TWO BDH Australian Shepherds, June Bug is a Black Tri Female born June 2003 to Rhett and Cinnamon and Ranger is a Blue Merle Female born to Bossier and Bonnie's March 2006 BL1 Litter.
The Patterson are not the only BDH Aussie Owners to have more than one of our pups. Bob and Lillian Meason of McKinney, Tx have two Blue Merle Females Riley and Sissy from Rhett and Cinnamon's 2002 and 2004 Litters. Their son Robby Meason of Fayetteville, Ak has purchased a Red Tri Male Aiden from Bossier and Bonnie's November 2008 BL5 Litter.
Ken and Pat Merritt of Argyle, Tx have two sisters Sadie a Black Tri Female and Molly a Red Merle Female from Bossier and Bonnie's March 2006 BL1 Litter.
Duncan and Leslie Parish of Wimberly, Tx have two puppies also. One from the April 2007 BL3 Litter Queenie, a Blue Merle Female and Sox a Red Merle Female which is out of Bossier and Bonnie's March 2006 BL1 Litter.
Jeff and Laura Stubbs of Bluff Dale, Tx purchased another BDH Aussie after their son Kirby purchased Blaze, a Red Tri Female from Bossier and Bonnie's October 2006 BL2 Litter. They brought home Mia a Blue Merle Female from Bossier and Bonnie's April 2007 BL3 Litter. Tragically both Blaze and Mia were killed and Kirby now owns Rocky a Blue Merle Male from the April 2007 BL3 Litter. Jeff and Laura have come back and purchased and will be taking home a new puppy from this November 2008 BL5 Litter, Buckle Blaze a Red Merle Female.
Nanci Hopper and Sandy Troudt of Keller, Tx also took home two sisters Cooper a Black Tri and Jaxon a Blue Merle from the April 2007 BL3.
Jerry and Kim Swain of Richland Hills own Cowboy, a Red Tri Male from the October 2006 BL2 Litter and added Sissy, a Blue Merle Female from the October 2007 BL4 Litter.
Dean and Debbie Whitmire from Burleson who own Charlie, a Red Merle Male from the October 2006 BL2 Litter added Fergie a little Red Tri Female from the October 2007 BL4 Litter.
It's wonderful to see the number of families that have come back to purchase a second puppy from us and it's great to get to see two puppies getting to go home together to be buddies.

Granny CiCi or Cinnamon
Cinnamon was the mother of Bossier and adopted mother of Bonnie. Cinnamon was purchased from Cheryl Channey of Quitman in 1999 to breed with Rhett. They produced 5 Litters from 2001 to 2004. In October 2004 Cinnamon had her last and final litter by Rhett. Rhett had passed away a month before the puppies were born and we decided to return to Golden, Texas and The Ra-Ro Ranch owned by Ray and Rose Ferguson to purchase a new female to breed to Rhett and Cinnamon's son Bossier from their 2002 second litter. The Ferguson's had a litter only two days prior to ours. The Sire of that litter was Ferguson's Bush Cheney from the same Blood Line as Rhett and the Dame was Ferguson's Sadie Hawkins Girl. So Bonnie was chosen and at 4 weeks old the Ferguson's allowed us to bring her home. I placed her in with Cinnamon and her litter of Pups. Bonnie was twice the size of Cinnamon's pups and I was not 100% sure that Cinnamon would accept her as her own but I figured if she'd raise a kitten as her own then... well Whiskers is a different story. Well Cinnamon did accept her and they remained Mother and Daughter right to the end. Granny CiCi died on Wednesday November 25th, 2009 just 10 days before Bonnie and Bossier's 7th Litter. You could look at Bonnie and tell that she knew what had happened and for days she laid around just sad looking. Like Rhett, Cinnamon will be missed greatly and without her and Rhett, BDH Aussies would not exist today. Their Blood Line and Traits are very apparent in the offspring of Bossier and Bonnie as the BDH Aussie Line continues.

4 Week Old Baby Bonnie and her Real Mom Sadie
Bonnie looks just like her momma Sadie

CiCi would stay outside the Pen the entire time Bonnie was in Labor keeping a watchful eye... a typical Grandma true and true! Bonnie would even allow her to come up to the whelping box. We noticed that CiCi's motherly instinct always would kicl into overdrive during puppy time. If she heard one of them yelp, her ears would pop up and there she'd go, trotting out to see if everything was okay. Granny CiCi would Baby sit and was like the typical Mother In-Law, thinking she could do a better job of taking care of the babies than Bonnie could but they both got a long and it was obvious that Bonnie didn't mind allowing CiCi to take over for her every now and then.

The puppy on top Nelly/Jewell is from Cinnamon's 4th Litter and the puppy on the bottom Sugar/Socks is Cinnamon's granddaughter from Bonnie's 1st Litter. These are two very remarkable and similar off spring from our Blood Line. The traits of Rhett and Cinnamon's puppies are past down to Bossier and Bonnie's puppies. We have had several puppies from different litters with the same markings and characteristics. Jewell looks very much like her mother Cinnamon as a mature dog. There is a picture of Socks shown above on the site when she is about 8 months old.

BDH's Cap'n Rhett Butler - Black Tri Male (Deceased)

Ole Grandpa Retty Petty There is not enough room on this site for me to talk about this old friend. His Legacy lives on... Rhett was one of a kind.
We got Rhett in January 1992 just a few months after we bought the Farm. We had no idea who we had bought other than a pretty Black Tri Australian Shepherd. I had owned a Blue Merle Male, Bandit, back in the early 80's but had to give him away when I went into the Army and way before I had met Carron. Rhett, as it turns out, was a kind of a special dog. His Ancestry was very extensive as we started researching, 11 Grand Champion Sire's and Dame's traces through his Family Tree and descendants from some very well thought of Blood Lines and Lineage. Las Racosa, Windermere, Wildhagen and Flintridge. Some names like Sorensen's Gun Smoke and Cactus Pete of Coppertone and a host of others. We discovered that Jeanne Joy Hartnagle's Book "All About Aussies" had almost everyone of those descendants scattered through out it's pages. Wow! We were shocked and amazed. We soon realized that we not only had a tremendous addition to our little family but a very Valuable Investment as well.

How do you eliminate the odor once your Dog has been sprayed by a skunk?

Here is Bossier's Secret Recipe that's Guaranteed to WORK!

Mix the following:
1 quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
1 teaspoon liquid soap or dish detergent
Mix these together and bathe ("shampoo" in or rub down) the spray victim thoroughly.
Be sure to use this mixture immediately after it is created, as it is unstable.
Rinse with tap water afterward, and repeat if necessary.
For spray in the eyes, flush with water as soon as possible.

BDH Aussies Owners Talk About Crate Training

Megan Godwin Owner of BDH Aussie BL4-4RTM
Yogi
LaGrange, GA

You know I’m 100% in favor of crate training! I would advice purchasing a crate that the puppy will grow into. I own the larger sizes. This way they are comfortable when they are fully grown.
I have both the wire crate and plastic Pet Taxi. I find the wire crate to be the better of the two. There are a number of reasons for this.
1) It is lighter for me to handle.
2) It folds up much easier and faster than the large plastic ones (this makes it more mobile for dog shows, vacations, etc.).
3) I can see the inside of the crate. If your pup has an accident in the large plastic one you almost need a flashlight to see in there. Sometimes they have accidents you can’t smell – like when they’ve been out “tasting” grass.
4) In case of an accident, the wire crate has a tray at the bottom that you can slide out. You would have to take apart the plastic kind.
5) If you crate more than one pet, they can see each other. My Yogi has separation anxiety and being able to see a buddy helps him and me out.
6) Most wire crates come with a partition. Out of the three wire crates I have, two came with a partiton. You can use the partition in the crate until your pup grows into the full crate. (You’ll see why in the house training suggestion)

***I personally have never had this happen, but be careful. Wire crates have a warning with them. The manufactures warn you to take their collar off or keep it free from getting tangled in the crate.

One reason I advocate crate training is for the safety of my pet. Crate training helps keep your beloved pet from getting into trouble. They are just like babies and need to be protected from the harm they don’t realize they can get themselves into. Example: Years ago I came home to find my dog, Nook, had eaten my remote control. No big deal, right, I’ll just get a new remote. Wrong! Nook had managed to get an electronic piece stuck in her throat. Not only could I have saved myself a boat load of money, I could have saved Nook from the pain and suffering she had to endure while getting the part out. That remote had batteries in it. She could have eaten them. Something so small could have killed her.

Another reason I believe in crate training is for the well being of my pet. The domestic dog is a descendant of the wolf. Wolves have dens. Have you ever noticed that your dog likes to lie under a chair, under the table, under the porch, or under your feet? This is your dog’s way of finding his/her own den. This is a place where your dog is most comfortable. When your pup gets fussed at what does he do? He goes and hides under something. Well, when you introduce a crate into the equation your pups den has been established already. You will find your pup retreating to that crate for the rest of its life. They will go there when they want to relax, get comfortable, and feel safe. This is the only reason why I like the big plastic kind of crate because this particular crate feels more “den” like.

Just a couple more things that the crate can help with:

House training - Crate training helps with house training your pup. Your pup will become comfortable in his crate. Dogs don’t eat, sleep, and mess in the same spot. They will naturally tend to keep the area where they sleep free of you know what. When your pup is still too small for the adult size crate this is where the partition is useful. Your pup will not be able to make a mess on one side and retreat to the other side.

Routine - As with human babies, routine is very important to your pup. Establishing a routine with your pup will make both of your lives easier. The crate can help you do this.

I love the fact that I have 5 dogs and none of my neighbors would be able to claim that my dogs keep them up all night. I can’t stand being woke up by I don’t know how many neighborhood dogs just barking to hear their head rattle for hours. My dogs are happy inside and never wake me up in the middle of a dead sleep from barking unless there is a good reason. Yogi is the only one who sleeps in the room with me.

P.S. I would like to note that all my dogs will go to “bed” at command. All I have to say is “Go to bed” or “Night, Night” or “Go to your box” and they go to their crate. This helps wonderfully when company is over. I can tell them to go to bed and then answer the door without 4 or 5 dogs jumping on my company.

The HSUS has information on the process of crate training on their web site.

Let me know if you have any questions. I'll try & get some pics for you.

Here's a link to a crate that I would recommend. As long as the pups don't turn out to be abosolute bruttes like the ones you sent pictures of before, the 36 L x 24 W x 27 H" crates are the perfect size for a 40-55 lbs Aussie. I also recommend a crate that has an expanding wall in it to make the space inside the crate smaller so it's easier to reach in and get the pup out when it's still fairly small http://www.petstreetmall.com/Midwest-Life-Stages-LS-1636-Dog-Crate/2807/1486/. These crates are also good for training... see below.

As far as crate training goes, the only thing that comes to mind is giving the verbal command of "Crate" everytime you put/send the dog to the crate. Once this is done enough times, they just figure it out and they will naturally want to go into the crate when they get older because it becomes a "safe place". The crate I mentioned above has a removable tray in the bottom. This is good for when you come home from work and find your little one hasn't been able to keep it in and it's fairly easy to carry outside and hose down and scrub w/ some detergent. I've also found that if you cover the crate with a towel at night the yelping and barking tends to be a lot less and you can get to sleep sooner. The important thing to remember is to not punish the dog by putting it in its crate. This only rewards them by sending them to their "safe place".

I hope this helps. Here's a link to a document that goes into more detail: http://www.weldcountyhumane.org/pdfs/Crate%20training%20Flyer.pdf

Looks like a good litter... did you keep #5 for yourself or did something happen?

About crate training: Well, before she got used to the crate, she would not go inside. She would just lie on her side when she knew it was time to go in and I'd have to basically carry her butt inside. When my mom would play with her, she used treats to get her inside her crate. AND IT WORKED! She did this for about a week. Pan is a very smart pup and I was amazed to see her go inside her crate without a fuss one day. We then associated the treats with word "inside" or tapping the top of the entrance, or even pointing to her crate. So, anyways, I felt we started late with her crate-training, so we bought her the extra-large crate at Walmart (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10543934) because she loved to sleep with her legs sprawled everywhere, and she was growing so fast. If you start before these puppies grow larger than a foot and a half long, you can use a medium-sized crate. The idea is to use a size where they won't be able to turn around in the crate because I've been told that the roomier it is, the more antsy they get. However, my experience tells me that if a dog likes their crate, they won't be causing any problems in it. A crate is used to create an environment of relaxation, so, scratching/pushing against the door isn't a good sign that the dog is taking it well (that is, if they fuss after they already ate and/or did their business outside). If it helps, tiring them out first is a very good idea. Also, using treats in association with a word is a really good strategy to get them in the crate! Oh, and praise, praise, praise! A "good girl!" or "good boy!" is rightly deserved for a job well done. It's tough starting to introduce them to the crate, but if you give a little patience, you'll get really good results and quick learning in return no matter what age they are! :) I don't know how many pups actually go in their crates the first time without a fuss, but mine howled and cried all night the first few days. DON'T GIVE IN AND LET THEM OUT. They'll just remember how long they whined and do it the next time plus some more if they don't get your attention right away. I should know because I let her out when she did it the first time. It was hard ignoring those pleas of wanting to get out of the crate as a first-time Aussie owner. :( But she's tough and could handle it. Everything paid off when we took her to the vet, they told me that when they took her to the crate she was going to stay in before the surgery, she walked in with no problems. So proud! But that was my experience when we crate-trained Pan. I know each dog is different and it takes a while to know what will work and what won't, but I hope this helps give an idea!

I bought the largest crate size from LL Bean so Sammy would fit in it as an adult.
1. I'd always give him the same voice command (tell him it was "time for sleepies" in an encouraging voice), give him a treat every time, and tell him he was a good boy--make it like he was playing a game or doing a good job.
2. I'd put his treat inside a Kong, and every time he saw that thing, he'd run into the crate. He loved it-still does.
3. Plus, I made it comfortable inside with his blanket, a toy or two for him to chew on, and the crate was right next to my bed so he'd know he wasn't alone. Really, he never fought going in the crate--I think it's because he's a genius.

LOVE this BDH Aussie!!!
